Pods for perfect poaching
I embarked upon a bit of a health kick just before Christmas. I (rather cunningly) decided to get myself in check before the onslaught of mince pies and chips ‘n dip. The plan worked, I’m pleased to report. I managed to exercise great self control throughout the festive period and even found myself trotting along pavements in the early hours.
I had to take a good hard look at what I was eating and it didn’t take a rocket scientist to work out where I was going wrong. Portion control. Meh… that old chestnut. So disappointing for a foodie piggy like me, who loves nothing better than to chow down on a man sized portion of anything going. And then get stuck into the leftovers whilst cleaning up the kitchen.
Well, luckily I have a wonderful friend who is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to good nutrition. You might recognise Mel, she’s one of our fabulous one for you / one for me models… and one of my oldest friends. Here she is on a shoot for 1/1, goofing around with some mad bird – oh that’s me.
And here’s what she does the rest of the time (when she’s not chasing around after her two gorgeous girls)
So, seeing as Mel’s done all the hard work and qualified as a personal trainer, I’m very happy to soak up all of her knowledge and tips for a healthier lifestyle. So many of us are time poor and don’t want to faff about making sandwiches, but still would rather have a healthy lunch.
Here was Mel’s recommendation to me:
- One poached egg (quick and easy to do using Fusion Brands’ poaching pods.. click here for more details)
- A few slices of smoked salmon
- A large handful of wilted english spinach
- Half an avocado
- Give it a squeeze of lemon here and there and a sprinkle of black pepper.
Hey presto… a super healthy lunch, packed with protein and not a carb in sight. Avos are packed with nutrients, Vit C and E, and help lower cholesterol (alongside a number of other health benefits.)
Well, it worked for me and I love my Pods – so quick and easy to use. Especially if it’s a one man poaching session and I don’t want to get my huge poaching pan out of the back of the cupboard. You can read about how they work here.
